Happy Feet at new Newton Surgery Center

Everyone knows that when your feet hurt, you hurt all over. And, with the abuse most of us put our feet through, it’s not surprising that the American Podiatric Medical Association ranks foot ailments as one of the most common health problems in the United States.
Studies show that 75 percent of Americans experience foot problems at some time in their lives. However, few seek medical treatment, mistakenly believing that foot discomfort is an expected part of life.

Thomas D. Truong, DPM, Diplomate, American Board of Podiatric Surgery, Board Certified in Foot Surgery, has advice for women, who make up the majority of his patients. “If I could tell young women one thing, it is to buy shoes with a wider toe box. Hammer toes and other problems are often the result of frequent wearing of shoes with narrow toes. There are many fashionable alternatives that don’t injure your feet.”

Dr. Truong recently opened Newton’s newest podiatric practice, the Kansas Foot Center, at the Newton Surgery Center at 800 Medical Center Drive, Suite 210, on the Newton Medical Center campus. He provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and preventative care for the foot and ankle. His training included completing the new, more rigorous PM&S-36 three-year surgery residency program and he is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Truong specializes in helping patients with chronic pain, traumatic injuries, and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle utilizing the most technically advanced treatments and new procedures.

“At the Kansas Foot Center we believe that foot care is vital to overall well-being,” he said. “We work with patients to prevent and correct problems, rather than simply treat the symptoms. By using new non-invasive technologies we’re able to get patients back on their feet in record time. We want our patients to walk out happy.”
