Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Is excessive snoring becoming a big issue in your bedroom? Spend a night in the sleep lab at Newton Medical Center and your problem may be solved.
Sleep Medicine Center of Kansas, a service of Wichita Clinic, has combined forces with Newton Medical Center to provide sleep clinic and lab services in Newton.
Symptoms that lead people to the Sleep Center include fatigue, insomnia, snoring and sleep apnea. Patients can be self-referred or referred by a physician.
Patients provide a full sleep-oriented history and receive a physical. After the evaluation, treatment or testing appropriate for that individual is suggested. A stay at the sleep lab is sometimes recommended.
Each Monday night, technicians from the Sleep Medicine Center arrive at Newton Medical Center with portable testing equipment. Patients are settled into their “bedrooms,” where technicians attach sleep lab monitors.
Although many patients are apprehensive about their ability to sleep while attached to monitors, 99 percent of lab patients sleep well.
Two to three weeks later, patients meet with a doctor for a report on the extensive data collected.
