We hope your child’s stay with us is comfortable. The following guidelines and information will help us provide you and your child with the best care possible.
A parent or family member should stay with your child. You may spend the night in your child’s room. If your child sleeps in a crib, you may use the bed. If your child is using the bed, we will provide a recliner or chair bed.
Visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. We request that no more than two visitors be in your child’s room at a time. Siblings should only visit briefly and should be with a responsible adult. This adult should not be the same person who is staying with the sick child.
Newton Medical Center will provide pajamas or a gown, booties or slippers. You may bring other clothing for your child. However, we cannot be responsible for the loss of personal possessions. Please make sure your child wears shoes or slippers when walking.
Some toys are available for children. Please consult with your nurse before bringing toys from home. Newton Medical Center volunteers provide a hand-made toy for each pediatric patient.
Hospital diets are prepared according to your doctor’s orders. Meals will fulfill the nutritional needs of your child. Please check with your nurse before giving your child other food, candy or drink.
The parent or guardian staying with a child age five and under will be provided breakfast, lunch and supper daily. Please inform the nurse if meals are not wanted. Complimentary coffee for family members is available in the galley by the nurses’ station.
Frequent and thorough hand washing is the most effective means of preventing transmission of an infectious illness. We recommend you wash your hands frequently.
Please observe the following:
- Keep the bed side rails up and fastened securely at all times
- Please do not visit patients in other rooms during your child’s illness
- Do not allow your child to run in the hallway.
- Keep all glass containers and other equipment out of your child’s reach.
