Pathologists improve the diagnosis, treatment and basic understanding of human disease by clinical service, education and research that includes the advancement of basic science, translational and clinical research in pathology and related fields. They provide pathology diagnostic services and blood products of the highest quality for patients. Pathology embodies a variety of specializations, such as autopsy, clinical virology, dermatopathology, hematology and transfusion medicine.1
At Newton Medical Center, pathologists provide multiple services across several disciplines. They can utilize the Cryostat and analyze tissue while patients remain under anesthesia, thereby saving patients from undergoing additional surgical procedures. Our speech language pathologists work in the Generations Unit with patients dealing with mental health issues and socialization.
