
An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who is specialized in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists are trained to provide the full spectrum of eye care, from prescribing glasses and contact lenses to complex and delicate eye surgery. They may also be involved in eye research.1
Newton Medical Center’s ophthalmologists work in conjunction with Axtell Ophthalmology to offer a full range of services, including general eye exams, visual field testing, child eye diseases, diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease and injury, cataract removal and lens implant, glaucoma, diabetic retropathy, macular degeneration, dry eye, red eye (pink eye) and optical dispensary.
Eye Surgery
The high-tech Sovereign Phacoemulsifier provides more power and vacuum during cataract surgery. The upgraded equipment vibrates the needle on the end of the surgeon’s handpiece about 40,000 times per second. A foot control allows the surgeon to adjust power.
