Newton Medical Center has launched the SHHH! initative, which aims to reduce noise on patient care units, in an effort to aid healing.
Noise is linked to a number of side effects, including:
- Stress reactions
- Psycho-physiological effects
- Delayed wound healing
- Reduced pain tolerance
- Impaired immune function
The SHHH! initiative will promote noise reduction education, enforced quiet times and sleep aid kits when requested.
