Newton Medical Center has become the second hospital in Kansas to own and operate Acclarent Cyclops™, a state-of-the-art surgical scope used to treat sinus conditions more effectively and efficiently than conventional tools.
Barry Paul Kimberley, MD, who has performed several procedures using the new device since its arrival earlier this year, says the scope is “unique in its ability to allow surgeons to see every angle imaginable during surgery.”
The Acclarent Cyclops™ is capable of rotating 90 degrees to each side, allowing surgeons a full view into the nose and inside the sinuses. This helps surgeons resolve issues more quickly and easily, with no incisions involved. It is less invasive, safer and more thorough than traditional methods, greatly improving outpatient procedures and facilitating shorter surgery times.
“It allows us to verify CT scans visually and even see around corners, doing the job it used to take three or four scopes to perform,” said Dr. Kimberley.
Dr. Kimberley provides Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) services as well as sleep medicine services on the Newton Medical Center campus.
